Quirky Wes Anderson-Inspired, Great Gatsby-Themed Portland Wedding
Monday, July 7 2014
When Edwin Maestas, 24, proposed to Alicia Bennett, 24, in the kitchen of their Portland apartment the weekend before Christmas, the moment was a sweet prequel of what their wedding day would look like—sentimental photos of the two lifelong friends throughout the years were strung about their home, while a smattering of confetti and balloons kept things whimsical and celebratory.
In planning their wedding, Edwin’s affinity for Wes Anderson married perfectly with Alicia’s adoration of the 1920’s time period to create a day that felt like “If Wes Anderson had directed The Great Gatsby,” says photographer Sarah Morrison of Hazelwood Photo.
To maintain the uniqueness of the big day, the couple used quaint cloth flags with “Yay” printed on one side and a wedding program on the other to guide guests through their long and meaningful ceremony. As the bride and groom kissed to seal the deal, guests waved the flags in celebration and later showered the newlyweds with metallic dot confetti as they took off to start their new life together following their September 28, 2013 nuptials.
