Turn a campfire classic up a notch at your outdoor reception with gourmet s’mores from Portland’s new Nineteen27 S’mores. The local eatery was born last year when founders James and Elise Kelly, who had been trying various recipes on friends for three years, opened their first food cart in NW Portland.

Nineteen27, so named for the 1927 Girl Scouts booklet that featured the first documented s’mores recipe, offers 30 artisan marshmallow flavors to choose from, including peppermint, Nutella and coffee. The Kellys can even offer pumpkin-flavored graham crackers for the colder months. Couples can opt for Nineteen27’s vintage-style cart or a full s’mores bar that can be as simple or as extravagantly gooey and decadent as they wish with a homemade square marshmallow, flavored sauces and graham crackers.

Newlyweds Brandy and Michael McDonald included a s’mores bar in lieu of a wedding cake at their Portland wedding last spring. Guests devoured salted caramel, raspberry swirl and the very popular coffee-flavored s’more. “Having the s’mores bar allowed our loved ones to have more of an interactive experience,” Brandy says. “It also freed up some time that would typically be designated for cake cutting so that we would have more time on the dance floor.”
