Brittany & Cameron

Feb. 25, 2012 at FivePine Lodge in Sisters

Standing at the altar in three inches of fresh snow, Cameron Nichols said something to Brittany Mullins on their wedding day she’ll never forget: “You have the most perfect snowflake on your check.” Her heart melted.

That snowflake was as perfect as the wedding day almost wasn’t. Self-proclaimed outdoorsy types Brittany, 26, and Cameron, 27, had hoped for a winter wonderland when planning their wedding at FivePine Lodge in Sisters, but the weather wasn’t cooperating during one of the least snowy winters in history. As luck would have it, a storm moved in the night before the ceremony, and by the time the ceremony began, pristine white snow covered the ground and dusted the towering pines.

Luck also played a part when they met in 2007, while both were students at the University of Oregon. Cameron found the only seat left in a lecture hall for a study-abroad orientation meeting, a seat that happened to be in the back row beside Brittany. The two immediately connected over their love of travel and of Denmark, where they were both exchange students. Soon, they found themselves traveling all over Europe and South America together before finally putting down roots in Bend. The mountains surrounding Bend and Central Oregon provided the perfect backdrop for a wedding Brittany hoped would reflect a rustic, yet sophisticated, Cascades vibe.

As guests gathered in the snowy clearing on the grounds of FivePine Lodge, they were greeted with hand warmers, mugs of hot apple cider and bourbon toddies, and led to benches outfitted with 60 colorful Pendleton wool blankets ready to keep everyone cozy. Even when the weather turned blustery before the ceremony, the groomsmen—dressed in black suits—and the bridesmaids—in black lace cocktail dresses and chartreuse Hunter rubber boots—remained infectiously happy. This joyous spirit reflecting the couple’s love of family and nature extended to the many personalized details throughout the reception: centerpieces designed by Cameron’s mother featured succulents and pine cones; a custom coffee blend created by Brittany’s father (who works in the coffee industry) and served at the reception and given as favors; and tapestries hand-painted by the maid of honor and hung around the reception hall.

After their frosty wedding, the couple opted for a honeymoon in the warm tropics of Singapore, Bali and Lombok, Indonesia. Back home in Bend, where they live with their Labrador, Dixon, Brittany serves as development director for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Oregon, and Cameron is an SEO account manager for Rimm-Kaufman Group.
