Brittany & David

Sept. 4, 2010 at Lac de Fleur Gardens in Washougal, Washington

How They Met: As children (their fathers were frat brothers). But after David’s family moved away from the Northwest, they weren’t in touch until he moved back 15 years later. He fell in love right away—though it took her three more years to see him as more than a steadfast friend.

How He Proposed: Returning home from dinner one night in August 2009, David surprised her with 1,000 paper cranes hanging in their dining room, which he had been folding for years, and got down on one knee.

How They Wed: They chose the colors of sunset, deep purples and oranges, and found a garden on the north side of the Columbia River Gorge for their casual outdoor wedding. The day was about family and children, who were able to run around with the wandering ducks and turtles. Brittany and David made fireflies from reclaimed wire and mini lightbulbs—a nod to the “light” that he brought to her life. Each guest adopted one and signed their name next to its photo in the “guest book.”

How They Live Happily Ever After: After a larger reception at Northeast Portland’s Norse Hall, the newlyweds rented a house on Oahu for ten days of relaxation. Recent medical school graduate Brittany, architect David and their pup Tycho moved to Fairfield, California in May where she will begin her residency and Air Force active duty.
