Genny & John

Sept. 19, 2009 at St. Mary’s Cathedral and The Nines in Portland

How They Met: Hanging out with mutual friends at the Marathon Taverna in 2007 (a bar just a block away from St. Mary’s Cathedral, where Genny always wanted to get married). Not long after, they went on their first date at the Vista Springs Café in the West Hills.

How He Proposed: After a day of wine tasting in the Willamette Valley, the couple pulled over to enjoy a beautiful view. When Genny stepped out of the car, John was already on bended knee.

How They Wed: Genny’s dream came true, of course! And during the traditional Catholic ceremony at St. Mary’s Cathedral, the two were thrilled when the priest spontaneously allowed them to read their personal vows. The glamorous reception began as the couple left in a 1949 Packard Limousine while guests were treated to a tour of Portland on a rented trolley car from Oregon City Trolley. In fact, tables at the reception were named after memorable streets from the couple’s life together: where they met, where they kissed and where they bought their first home. The ballroom at The Nines was the perfect place to dance the night away, decked out in warm touches of purple, red and orange for a sultry elegance.

How They Live Happily Ever After: The couple took a three-part honeymoon to New York City, Antigua and the island of St. Lucia. They now live in Southwest Portland, where Genny is an account manager at Leopold Ketel & Partners and John works as an account executive at Sprint Nextel.
