Jennifer & Ivan

July 17, 2010 at Ecola State Park in Cannon Beach

How They Met: Three years ago at the karaoke bar they both frequented. Ivan’s perfect rendition of “Ice Ice Baby” knocked music teacher Jennifer’s socks off, and they finally connected months later over MySpace. Their first date was back at the Golden Crown in Beaverton for drinks and duets. How He Proposed: Ivan hid the engagement ring in Jennifer’s birthday gift bag in August 2009, which she nearly missed. After he pointed it out, she excitedly said yes. How They Wed: Wanting a small, casual affair, they chose a simple coastal ceremony at Ecola State Park, looking out at Haystack Rock. Family and friends helped in every way, from setting up chairs to making coffee. The 40 guests watched as Jennifer and Ivan honored his five-year-old daughter with a “sand ceremony” that symbolizing the blending of their new family. Then everyone adjourned to Jennifer’s grandmother’s home for a laughter-filled lunch buffet from the Surfsand Resort. The party continued that night at—where else?—the Golden Crown. How They Live Happily Ever After: After a honeymoon to Maui and Oahu, where Ivan’s mother lives, the newlyweds returned to their home in Hillsboro and plan to expand their family soon. Jennifer is an elementary school music teacher and Ivan is a Senior Operations Engineer at Nike.
