Kate & Chris

Sept. 10, 2011 at Cathedral Park and The Plant in Portland

How They Met: As coworkers at a Portland architecture firm, Kate and Chris always enjoyed each other’s sense of humor. So when Kate announced in 2007 that she was headed for a new job, Chris didn’t hesitate to ask her out. How He Proposed: On a favorite Columbia Gorge hike during Christmas of 2010, Chris popped the question at an opportune viewpoint. How They Wed: In a simple outdoor ceremony amid the grandeur of North Portland’s Cathedral Park, where warm reds, yellows and greens greeted the guests before they migrated to the reception in a Southeast Portland industrial event space that was equal parts intimate and exuberant. Guests’ messages hung on the huge metal bay doors with magnets, and long narrow tables encouraged conversation over dinner. The locally harvested feast from Din Din Supper Club has guests raving to this day, as do surprises that sprung up all night—including fire dancers. How They Live Happily Ever After: After a weekend in Seattle, the couple began their life together in St. Johns while planning a honeymoon to Thailand and Cambodia in 2012. Kate, a communications consultant who made the wedding jewelry herself, plans to start her business on Etsy. Chris is a co-owner of Stack Architecture.
