Lily & Sam

Aug. 6, 2011 at Mt. Hood Skibowl

Although avid skiers, Lily and Sam—who met in sultry Las Vegas and moved to Portland one year ago—didn’t want a chilly winter wedding. In fact, they had already sent out save-the-dates for a Hawaii destination wedding when they began hitting the slopes at Mt. Hood Skibowl and fell in love with Oregon’s iconic peak. “We realized we wanted our wedding at a place that defined us,” says Lily, “and we thought it was a great way to show our family why we love it here.” So the intrepid couple welcomed summer with their mid-mountain ceremony at the resort, surrounded by 80 guests and evergreens instead of white powder. But one thing remained the same no matter the season: the chair lift. Their breathtaking ride back down to the reception remains Lily’s favorite part of the day, those precious few minutes alone to soak in the rustic scenery, the fresh mountain air—and each other.
