Real Weddings

Megan & Corey
Jan. 7, 2011 at Shakespeare Garden in Washington Park & Define in Portland

How They Met: At Stumptown Coffee when Megan demanded, “Who are you?” “I was just trying to make sense of the perfect person serving me coffee,” she laughs. They fell in love before they finally started dating a few years later.

How He Proposed: They already planned to spend their lives together, but one stormy December afternoon, Corey slipped an engagement ring on her hand while Megan napped and surprised her with a proposal when she awoke.

How They Wed: The stylish Portlanders—she owns Fieldwork Floral and he’s a Stumptown barista—needed less than a month to organize a spontaneous celebration with 18 family members. Megan, in a vintage dress from Xtabay and carrying white freesia, and Corey, in a bespoke Duchess suit, said their vows under umbrellas in the mossy Shakespeare Garden. The newlyweds went for dessert à deux at classic Portland restaurant Higgins while the guests enjoyed cocktails at downtown’s Central, before they all reunited at supper club/event space Define in Northwest Portland to enjoy a feast together.

How They Live Happily Ever After: No fancy honeymoon—instead, Megan and Corey have been blissfully planning for the arrival of their little girl this summer.
