How They Met: When Samantha and Devin’s two best friends began dating in 2007, a double date led to mutual sparks. Now both couples live just blocks apart. How He Proposed: Devin surprised Sam on her birthday in 2010 with a picnic at Cana’s Feast Winery in the Willamette Valley, where he proposed as all their friends watched from a distant terrace. How They Wed: Opting for cosmopolitan and lush, this chic event began on the stage of the Gerding Theater at the Armory—the first ceremony to take place inside the theater. The glitzy reception turned up the heat with a seated dinner in the mezzanine, cocktails and a home-brewed lavender IPA, plus dancing galore. Guests were also kept fashionably entertained as an aerial dancer poured champagne while suspended from the ceiling, and a painter flown in from L.A. re-created the event on canvas as it was unfolding. Mini pink boxes of Voodoo Doughnuts and shots of milk kept up the energy for late-night partygoers. How They Live Happily Ever After: A mini-moon in Las Vegas—complete with renewed vows before Elvis himself—started their wedded bliss, and a longer trip to Thailand commenced this past November after monsoon season. Back home in Northeast Portland, Devin works in advertising and Samantha is looking forward to finishing her thesis for a master’s degree in counseling psychology.
