Tara & Kyle

July 31, 2010 at the Wonder Ballroom in Portland

How They Met: While interning where New Zealand-native Kyle worked in 2006, Tara was immediately drawn to his Kiwi accent and sense of humor. Many friendly movies and concerts later, they finally confessed their romantic feelings for each other. How He Proposed: During a trip to Santa Monica in August 2009, Tara thought all her dreams had already come true with just a tandem bike ride down the boardwalk—until Kyle pulled out a vintage 1930s engagement ring and asked her to marry him. How They Wed: The music-loving pair chose local venue Wonder Ballroom, where they had seen many concerts together. The punchy décor was inspired by fabric by local textile designer Erin McMorris, which Tara’s mother turned into napkins for the 220 guests. Vintage rock ’n’ roll infused the shindig: RSVP cards designed as show tickets, Beatles and Queen tunes played throughout the ceremony, and concert posters featuring the couple lined the walls. After a limbo contest and Voodoo Doughnuts, the night ended with rocking karaoke. How They Live Happily Ever After: Hoping to see monkeys, the spirited newlyweds went on a Costa Rican honeymoon. Back home in Southeast Portland, Kyle is a software engineer and Tara is an internet marketing consultant.
