Tresa & Ted

Ted Deli and Tresa Horney love nature. After meeting in 2007 and then dating for three years, the couple took a summer backpacking trip to the Wallowa Mountains. As their hike progressed, the weather took a turn for the worst, forcing the couple to turn back. A quick stop for lunch revealed Ted’s true plans for the hike that he had planned months in advance. Amid the rain and thunder, Ted asked Tresa to marry him. Naturally, Tresa said yes. “We were both excited and thrilled,” says Tresa. “But with lightning striking all around, we ended up racing over boulders, through swamps and flooded trails to get to the safety of our car.”
It became evident that House on Metolius, a resort in Central Oregon known for its scenic riverfront location, would be the perfect place for the couple’s ceremony and reception. Divvying up responsibilities, Ted and Tresa found they could plan a very personalized wedding by meshing both their interests and skills. “Ted and I both felt really lucky to have the support of our families with the freedom to plan our wedding the way we wanted,” says Tresa. A close friend officiated the wedding, as Ted and Tresa read their written vows and relished in the closeness of the 80 friends and family members who attended. “It seems like so many things about our wedding were unique: the setting with the Metolius River and Mount Jefferson, the colors of the ponderosa pines and sage, the beautiful fiery sunset with the cows grazing, and the warm temperatures,” says Tresa.
After the ceremony, guests feasted on a delicious, locally sourced meal catered by the Well Traveled Fork and drinks by Twist Cocktails. It was important to the couple that the local region was supported, and they made sure to purchase all food and drink from the nearby communities. Opting out of the traditional wedding cake option, Tresa and Ted decided on ice cream wedding pies. Unfortunately, the unseasonably warm weather had different plans. “The dry ice was outmatched,” jokes Tresa.
Incredibly pleased with their gorgeous wedding, the couple jetted off to Fiji to spend a month in newlywed joy. Today, Tresa works to elect pro-environment candidates running for office in Oregon and Ted owns Roots Garden Supply in North Portland. The Overlook neighborhood-based couple spends their free time with their basenji pup Olive, and plan on lots of scuba diving and traveling in the future.
