Room to Get Creative

If you’re looking for an industrial-chic and wildly versatile reception site, you’ve got two new options in Portland. The 14,000-square-foot LeftBank Annex opened in February, with two floors and a mezzanine, which is the perfect spot for a band to play or for guests to lounge. Event planners were consulted throughout the Northeast Portland building’s renovation to ensure easy set-up and endless reception design possibilities, whether brides want to transform the space with drapes and lighting, or leave its wood beams and large paned windows raw, reflecting the building’s history as a WWII airplane machine shop.

Across the river at the north end of the Pearl District, West Coast Event Productions opened Pure Space this past spring. The former recycling plant was completely revamped, with floor-to-ceiling window walls that make it “glow like a glass box at night,” says WCEP’s Elizabeth Hermann. The expansive 16,500-square-foot space—topped with an impressive domed ceiling and criss-cross wood braces—is a fantastic blank slate for WCEP’s visionary event designers to work their magic.

Corvallis is also getting in on the modern design fun with the Vue; the fifth- and sixth-floor event space features panoramic views of the Coast Range and the Willamette Valley. Black walnut, steel and colored LEDs embedded in the hardwood ceilings create a rich, contemporary finish.
