School Spirit: A Little Team Pride Goes A Long Way When It Comes To Repping The Alma Mater At Your Wedding

A little team pride goes a long way when it comes to repping the alma mater at a wedding. “University-themed decor is best in subtle touches,” says Nora Sheils, founder of Lake Oswego’s Bridal Bliss. “We recently coordinated a wedding where the escort cards were Oregon State University cookies that had tags for each guest’s name. It’s fun when the couple either both went to the same university or went to rival schools and you can play on that little detail.”

Those subtle touches abounded at Charlotte Foss and Kyle Plitt’s November 2017 nuptials at The Oregon Golf Club in West Linn, wherein the bride surprised the groom with a University of Oregon duck groom’s cake by Wilsonville’s Laurie Clarke Cakes. When Alicia Pekema wed David Lippman at Southeast Portland’s Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden, he sported a hint of school spirit via UO socks. And while not nearly as subtle (but still a party favorite), the University of Oregon mascot made a surprise cameo at UO alums Megan Ward and Alex Nystrom’s wedding at Maysara Winery in McMinnville and helped them kick off the evening’s dance party to “Shout.”
