Portlanders Alicia Bennett, 25, and Edwin Maestas, 25, waved good-bye to streamers and bubbles and gave their guests a new way to bid them farewell: “Yay!” flags to wave instead. For their indoor ceremony at Gallery 903 in Portland’s Pearl District, the couple thought making their own flags would be a charming detail to add to their “Wes Anderson takes Great Gatsby”–themed wedding. The flags, which the couple designed themselves, were made of denim from Jo-Ann Fabric and printed by Blue Mill Screen Print and Design in Southeast Portland and included the ceremony program printed on the backs. “It was meant for the end of the ceremony, but guests ended up using it throughout the reception too,” says Alicia. “They even waved them during our first dance.”
