Veterinarian Brea Sandness was visiting the Oregon Zoo with her boyfriend, Tyler Rose, when the pair dropped by Brea’s favorite exhibit, Elephant Lands. There, under the gaze of the exhibit’s resident Asian elephants, Tyler popped the question via a large canvas sign he had arranged to have placed at the site. Brea says that they walked around the zoo the rest of the day with the canvas that read, “Will you marry me?”

The pair exchanged vows at St. Juan Diego Catholic Church on the fifth anniversary of their engagement. After the ceremony, the couple treated their guests, many of whom were visiting from out of town, to a tour of Portland in a 1959 Bristol Lodekka double-decker bus before they headed to Coopers Hall for the reception. “The night wouldn’t have been complete without a perfect dessert and some great music and entertainment. We aren’t much for cake, so we went with our favorite ice cream, Salt and Straw,” says Brea.
