Have it Your Way

Trends

If you’ve been dreaming of your wedding gown since you were a little girl, it may sometimes feel like you’ll never find the perfect one. What if you’ve seen everything you want on ten different dresses, but never all on the one? That’s where new-to-Oregon dress designer Sophie Chang comes in. At her Hillsboro shop, Sophie Bridal Couture, she works with brides to put together entirely custom gowns based on your favorite elements, and the results are transcendent—if you can dream it, she can sew it. Her style is classic with a modern twist (princess gowns with sleek one-shoulder necklines or strapless bodices made of neat pintucks), and the studio’s walls are lined with samples, from languid drapes to voluminous skirts, to play with and get inspired. If you’re not sure what you want, you can select any of her designs as-is (several beautiful ones are featured in Ladies & Gentlemen and Body of Evidence), but we suggest letting the effervescent Sophie have a little fun helping you create the dream dress you maybe never even knew you wanted. And don’t think “couture” is out of your budget—these one-of-a-kind designs usually run under $2,000.
