Fresh Floral

Trends

At our (seriously gorgeous, if we do say so ourselves!) fashion shoots last week, we were blown away by some incredible floral designs that local florists put together for us. There was the richly colored bird-nest-like bouquet from Francoise Weeks and a parasol made of delicate yellow blooms by Lavish, both for our darkly romantic Carnivale-inspired spread. We can't wait for you to see how it all came together!

We also can't for you to check out the work of new Portland florist Hailey Bernstein of Zest Floral in our sleekly modern "structure" spread, which features body-conscious dresses and shapes. Her bouquet of cascading orchids was wrapped in thick metal wire, twirling through the petals, and a bunch of calla lilies was wrapped to in silver to accentuate their clean lines.

It was the perfect showcase for Zest's distinctive style -- what Hailey calls "modern, fashion forward, and nontraditional." She's inspired by runway trends and architectural statements, and loves nothing more than to use unexpected materials like, yes, aluminum wire, as well as pine cones, green apples, exotic berries, and other fresh farmers market finds. (In fact, this is a trend we'll be highlighting in the next issue!)

Not only does Hailey have a striking creative vision -- one that she'll incorporate into everything from the tiniest boutonniere to full-scale installations -- she's a bundle of bubbly energy that will get to know your personality, revel in your excitement, and have fun reflecting that in your flowers.
