New bridal boutique Everly & Opal’s modern ambiance welcomes shoppers with a neon sign in the showroom and gold geometrics popping against a palette of navy blue and gray. When the Beaverton store opened in January, it became the only exclusively plus-size bridal boutique in the Northwest. The first part of the store’s name is a portmanteau of the words “every” and “lovely,” explains owner Amanda Schmalz, who also owns The White Dress bridal boutique in downtown Portland. “It’s for every lovely bride.” She wanted to create a place where brides-to-be could fit every dress on the rack, rather than a selection. For the perfect flattering fit, Everly & Opal carries brands such as Essense of Australia, Bonny Bridal and Gallery by Kenneth Winston, which, in addition to their other collections, specialize in designing for plus sizes in a broad range of silhouettes and style options. Brides-to-be have traveled from places as far as the Tri-Cities and Bend for the experience of shopping the size 16–32 collection in spacious, private and luxurious dressing-room lounges.
