Nothing but the Best

“So, what’s big in weddings these days?” It’s a question I’m asked often, given that my days are devoted to all things bridal. And while there are trends that blow up big and then fade away (burlap and Mason jars, RIP), the things that strike me as the freshest and most exciting are the intimacy and ingenuity that couples and wedding pros bring to today’s wedding celebrations.

Modern weddings aren’t about slavishly following traditions (or Pinterest, for that matter), but rather
celebrating the distinctive bond between two people through an occasion marked by imagination and style.
With the help of brilliant and skilled planners, event designers, florists, photographers, caterers, dress designers, lighting pros and others, Oregon couples are celebrating their marriages in epic and intimate occasions that inspire awe, even in those of us who look at wedding photos all day long.

Now, it’s the wedding pros’ turn to shine. In this issue, after a long and much-anticipated voting process, we’re announcing the Best of 2018 (page 121). Recognized for their skills and talents by their contemporaries and real Oregon brides and grooms, these pros help guide couples through one of the most exciting events in life.

In addition to recognizing these talented vendors, we’re also celebrating the season with fall- and winter-focused fashion, food, decor and more. In this issue, you’ll find cool and diaphanous gowns that call to mind the Oregon coast in winter (page 104), inspiration for a cozy and elegant craft-beer-focused reception (116), the lowdown on the best venues for a wine country wedding in Yamhill County (52), and tips for choosing wedding flowers that, while tapping into trends, still appear timeless and elegant (page 48).

Turn the page and get inspired to plan a wedding that tells your story as a couple with originality and panache. What’s big in weddings? Whatever feels authentically you.
