Khoa and Stephany met through mutual friends and dated long distance for a while. When they decided to get married, Khoa staged an elaborate proposal at Jamison Square full of yellow roses, but Stephany was an hour late. Panicking, thinking she had missed the event their friends made up to get her to the park, Stephany didn't register that her favorite flower was everywhere until she saw Khoa down on one knee.

The couple prioritized their families and cultures for their wedding, which spanned two days and had a total of six ceremonies. On the first day, the groom's family arrived at the bride's home to pick her up and deliver the dowry, before proceeding together back to the groom's home for the traditional Vietnamese tea ceremony. On the second day, five Cambodian traditions took place, along with multiple outfit changes for the entire wedding party. Honor was paid to the couple's parents, grandparents and ancestors. Their reception at the Melody Ballroom featured sweet and simple baby's breath with purple uplighting.
