Attention vintage-loving brides who can never find vintage dresses that fit: Xtabay Vintage Bridal Salon in Southeast Portland has a new ready-to-wear line of vintage-inspired bridal gowns. Owner Liz Gross (pictured below) is now offering designs based on actual vintage dresses, with inspiration coming from mid-century designers such as Balenciaga, Pierre Balmain and Jacques Heim.

“I wanted dresses that translated as modern, not a vintage character or costume,” says Gross, whose dresses are $700 or less. All of these new designs are more casual and meant for wedding receptions or more low-key courthouse or backyard weddings, versus the more dramatic gowns that Xtabay has carried in the past. Hem lengths are shorter and fabrics and details more ornate, as was popular with the designers in the 1950s and ’60s. Says Gross, “It was important that the dresses don’t look retro, just sophisticated.” Available in store or online.
